Charged with Attempted Murder?

We’re On Your Side.
Allegations of attempted murder are among the most serious

criminal charges a person can face. In England and Wales,

this offence is treated  with the utmost severity by the courts and,

if convicted, can result in a life sentence.

At Murrays, we provide expert, strategic defence

for clients accused of attempted murder.

We understand how high the stakes are -

and we’re here to protect your rights every step of the way.

What Is Attempted Murder?
Under UK law, attempted murder is the act of intending

to kill another person and taking direct steps to carry out that intention -

even if the person survives or is not physically harmed.

To secure a conviction,

the prosecution must prove:
Intent to kill (not just to cause serious harm)

A clear act that goes beyond mere preparation -

such as using a weapon, setting a trap, or launching an attack.

That the act failed to result in death, often due to

medical intervention, chance, or interruption.

Attempted murder is an indictable-only offence, which means

it can only be tried in the Crown Court and carries

a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Building a Strong Defence
Attempted murder charges are complex and fact-specific.

As experienced defence solicitors, we thoroughly investigate the details

of your case and develop a robust defence strategy.

This may involve:
Challenging intent – proving that you did not intend to kill.

Self-defence – showing your actions were taken in lawful self-defence.

Lack of evidence – questioning the reliability of witnesses

or forensic material.

Alternative charges – arguing that the offence is more appropriately
categorised (e.g. GBH or affray)

Mental health considerations – such as diminished responsibility

or lack of capacity

Our goal is always to secure the best possible outcome -

whether that’s an acquittal, a reduction in charges,

or mitigation in sentencing.

Murder Charges – Expert Criminal Defence

Facing a Murder Allegation?

We Are Here to Defend You.

Being accused of murder is one of the most serious charges

anyone can face under UK law. A conviction can result in

a mandatory life sentence, with significant implications for

your future, your family, and your freedom.

At Murrays we offer strategic, compassionate, and experienced legal

representation to individuals facing murder charges.

We understand what’s at stake — and we’re here to fight for your rights.

What Constitutes Murder Under UK Law?

In England and Wales, murder is defined as the unlawful killing

of another person with intent to kill or cause grievous

bodily harm (GBH). To secure a conviction, the prosecution

must prove beyond reasonable doubt that:

The victim is deceased

The defendant unlawfully caused the death

The defendant intended to kill or cause serious injury

Possible Defences to a Murder Charge

A charge of murder does not automatically mean a conviction.

As your defence solicitors, we will meticulously examine the

case against you, identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s evidence,

and explore all avenues of defence, including:

Self-defence

If the killing occurred in the course of defending yourself or another

Lack of intent

If you did not intend to kill or cause serious harm

Diminished responsibility

If you were suffering from a recognised mental health

condition at the time

Loss of control

If the act resulted from a sudden and extreme emotional reaction

Alibi or mistaken identity

If you were not present at the scene

We will also assess whether your rights were violated

during arrest or interview, and whether any evidence

was improperly obtained.
